COMEL Award: Open call for the fifth edition
The European Union artists and the aluminum challenge
The long-awaited event dedicated to the artists of the European Union has finally arrived with the announcement of the fifth edition. In a few years the COMEL Award has achieved a position of respect among the best art awards and it is unique in its kind in Europe. Participation is open to artists of the European Union whose works are made of aluminum (or in which aluminum is the predominant material). A choice that is explained by the origin of the award itself, created and sponsored by CO.ME.L. of Latina (a leader company in the processing and trade of aluminum), which in 2012 also created a Contemporary Art gallery free for artists and the public, Spazio COMEL (via Neghelli, 68, Latina, Italy), the ideal venue of the Prize.
Among the objectives stated in the notice, there are the promotion of Contemporary Art, the multicultural exchange among the European countries; the strengthening of the link between art and enterprise; the enhancement of aluminum, a material that, besides having a considerable aesthetic value, is extremely versatile.
The theme of the new call is the Light (the title of the exhibition will be ‘Lucent Aluminum’) to be modulated freely according to the personal inspiration. The announcement declares: “The new edition of the COMEL Award 2016 wants to allow artists to bring out the aluminum light, its ability to reverberate on the surface, to reflect, to mirror, to illuminate, to invoke clarity, to emanate and to link spaces and dimensions, without considering its opposite (darkness) as a negative characteristic, and indeed making it an essential component of its expressive power.”.
The call is open until June 30th and a consistent number of works are expected from all over Europe. There were hundreds of proposals in the latest edition, with top names in the international art scene and great resonance in the press, also internationally.
A jury of experts will evaluate the works and will choose the thirteen participating in the exhibition. The winner will then be chosen and awarded of a prize of 3500 euro and the possibility to prepare a solo exhibition at the Spazio COMEL Art gallery.
