The jury of the 8th edition has been appointed
The call for the 8th edition of the COMEL Vanna Miglior in Contemporary Art Award is about drawing to a close. The Aluminium Bonds edition, extended due to the Coronavirus pandemic, is heading towards the most important phase for the registered artists: the selection of the 13 finalists by a jury of experts.
The time has therefore come to reveal the names of the jurors of this 2020-2021 edition. In addition to the president of the jury Giorgio Agnisola, art critic and writer, professor of sacred art at the Pontifical Theological Faculty of Southern Italy, constant and precious presence for the COMEL Award, also this year the competition that promotes aesthetic use of aluminium, can count on names of the highest importance in the world of art: Elena Pontiggia critic and historian of art and academic; Marcello Francolini art critic and independent curator; Vincenzo Lieto artistic director of the Municipal Art Gallery “A. Sapone” in Gaeta; Maria Gabriella Mazzola representing CO.ME.L. promoter and sole supporter of the Award.
A very high-profile jury, whose members are among the leading curators, critics and art experts on the Italian scene. Different generations in comparison to select, among the hundreds of subscribers from all over the European continent, the 13 works that best declined this year’s theme by enhancing aluminium processing.
Aluminium Bonds underlines the natural propensity of this metal to merge, connect and blend with other elements, as a matter of fact in nature it is never found alone. This exquisitely chemical characteristic is easily reflected in the metaphorical and symbolic understanding of the concept of bond and is translated into the positive values of openness, generosity, exchange and the desire to create bonds with other people.
Registration for the call is free, all adult artists who live and work in the countries of the European continent can participate, presenting a work that uses aluminium as the only or main element. For the winner there is a cash prize of 3500 euros and the opportunity to be the protagonist of a solo show at the Spazio COMEL contemporary art gallery in Latina, with its own dedicated catalog.
Registrations are open until December 31st 2020.
